MOVIE OF THE WEEK Kenneth Lonergan's You Can Count On Me is another one of those movies that received a lot of positive press upon its release, only to be ushered quickly out of the public discussion. An examination of the relationships among a brother, sister, and her son, the film benefits from Lonergan's tight, spare writing and solid performances from Mark Ruffalo and Laura Linney.

The story lacks the neat, satisfying ending that would have made the movie an easier sell with mainstream audiences. But it's a much better film for having resisted that particular temptation.
